Re the Pelzman effect and seatbelts. Yes I suspect the availability / use of seatbelts increases risk taking in some. But in sum the number of serious injuries prevented / lives saved far outweighs the injuries / deaths of those who take increased risks. Darwin would like the survival of those intelligent enough to make proper use of the seatbelt.

Legally, the episode got it wrong. No U.S. case has ever recognized that pornography addiction could be a defense to rape. The only published case to consider the issue affirmed that pornography is not a mental disease or defect which would permit a finding of insanity. Schiro v. Clark, 963 F.2d 962 (7th Cir. 1992).

Courts have also consistently rejected a similar argument that exposure to violent video games could diminish the capacity of a criminal to appreciate his crime -- for example, this argument was rejected in the case of one of the Beltway snipers.

In defense of the NHL, I don't recall anyone calling the Red Wings "World Champions." Plus, the hockey world already has the World Cup of Hockey, and the Olympics.

Truly, the most egregious perpetrator of "world champions" moniker thievery is the NFL. Considering no one else in the world even *plays* football (yeah, yeah, NFL Europe, whatever), I'm surprised anyone has the stones to call any NFL team by that title.
